What is Nemty?
Being able to carry out mobility and orientation studies in controlled environments is a great aspiration on the part of many scientific groups around the world. Nemty is a system that is designed to study the behavior of different types of users in virtual reality environments in a controlled and fully quantifiable way. The system has been designed to be used under any circumstances with unique hardware and software that allow it to be used with different technologies such as virtual reality or with real images. Nemty’s limit is set by the researcher, allowing him as many different configurations as he needs to carry out his experiments. In the same way, data such as user speed, position on the treadmill, head position with respect to the scene and body temperature are quantified
The system consists of a 3 * 2 meter mat that moves in 2 directions and automatically adapts to the user’s speed. Its artificial intelligence allows to determine if the user is going to lose his balance to immediately stop the treadmill. It also has all the passive safety systems to avoid any type of accident.
The mat is complemented by a system of 3 screens of 86 “each that give an area of more than 6.5 m2 of 4K image. It integrates a virtual reality headset and a speaker system with surround sound.
With all these characteristics Nemty offers a totally new and unique immersive experience in the world
How does it work?
The first step is to adjust the security of the treadmill to the characteristics of each user, for this it will be necessary to adjust the height of monitors, the distance of the safety bars and the safety harness. All these security measures are independent of each other and will only be necessary in case the particularity of the user advises them.
Once the user is inside the system, the virtual environment will start, either in the virtual reality helmet or on the screens, and as soon as the user starts to walk, the treadmill will adjust to his speed. Throughout the scenario the user will find junctions or obstacles and must decide which the most appropriate way to continue with his march is.
On his part, the researcher will be able to determine if the user wishes to experience any of the most common visual dysfunctions so he can determine response times, user stress conditions and a long etcetera of quantifiable and reproducible parameters
